Very few of these are TB free - a very real threat to the Buffalo in Africa
Namibia's Tourmaline Area
Here are a few photos of landscape and a mined out Tourmaline pocket (top right) in the hills just above the little town of Usakos in Namibia. Together with the alluvial deposits in the river bed at the foot of the mountains, this is where the majority of the famous Namibian indicolite and blue green Tourmaline comes from.
Usakos is on the edge of the oldest Desert in the world - the Namib and is about an hours drive away from Swakopmund on the West Coast and Atlantic Ocean. Travelling towards the west one can go from temperatures of 45 C through the desert down to about 16 C on the coast where the cold Benguela current runs.
Incredible African Buffalo sighting
A fantastic experience watching about 600 wild African Buffalo coming down to the Kumana Dam in the Kruger National park. The dust and noise was incredible.
